About Us

We are Vermont's only community development credit union. A credit union is a member owned cooperative business.  Instead of investors, credit unions are made up of member owners.  Members elect the board of directors who ensure that the credit union's mission is carried out.  Dividends are paid to the members.  Your investment is used to develop and maintain affordable financial services that meet the needs of our members.

As a community development credit union, Opportunities is chartered specifically to serve the financial needs of low income, un-banked and underserved populations and we are permitted to accept "non-member" deposits.  These deposits come from "non-members" who do not meet Opportunities traditional field of membership and include: banks, credit unions, corporations, foundations, government agencies, faith based organizations, non-profits and social investors, who are allowed to invest in Opportunities  in order to ensure that all Vermonters have access to affordable financial services.  Learn more about us by seeing our Community Impact Statement.

Field of Membership:

  2. Residents and business owners in the City of Winooski.
  3. Religious or non-profit organizations and employees, volunteers, members, or clients of said groups serving low income Vermonters. Employees of the credit union.
