There was laughter, emotion, and gratitude abound during the Opportunities Credit Union Annual Meeting this year as members, employees, and board members met to recap the previous year on March 29th at the Burlington branch at 92 North Avenue. The room was filled with our largest attendance to date.
In addition to the required regulatory topics covered during the business meeting, the afternoon included delicious food, thoughtful gifts, and recognition for the hard work of Opportunities’ board and staff members year-round. The board of directors were commended for their hard work as volunteers while Larry Lewack was recognized as a long-term board member who will be stepping down. Ellen Shapiro was also honored for her five-year term as Board Chair. She will remain on the board of directors but will be passing the torch of Board Chair to the next member/owner, Ellen Kane, who will take her place.
The Opportunities senior management team was recognized, as were their individual departments, for helping members of all walks of life in varying financial situations. The board recognized CEO, Cheryl Fatnassi, as well for her dedication to the Credit Union’s mission.
Gifts included chocolates from Chocolate Hollow, based in Burlington, and maple syrup from April’s Maple, from Canaan, VT. Catering for the event was done by Sugarsnap of South Burlington and The Little Red Kitchen, based out of Burlington.
Chocolate Hollow, Sugarsnap, and The Little Red Kitchen have all been funded by the Credit Union through its small business lending program and April, owner of April’s Maple, will be on the Northeast Kingdom 53 fund board of directors.
