4 Easy Garden DIYs

August 19, 2015 by Opportunities Credit Union

GardeningDIYImage2With summer upon us, it’s time to get back out into the sun…and to your garden!

Here are a few tips and projects to spice up your garden.

1. Reuse Old Cinder Blocks

Have a few cinder blocks lying around? Turn them into flower boxes! It’s a fun way to repurpose an old item. You can even take it to the next step and spray paint them to add any pattern you want for your own unique garden.

(Don’t have any lying around? Cinderblocks can easily be purchased from any home improvement store for less than two bucks!)

Here are a few ideas to get you inspired:

Loving the look of the cinder blocks? Us too. Why not create a cinder block bench? After all, you’ll need a place to relax after all of that gardening.

2. Create Your Own Herb Garden

Now that summer is upon us, it’s time to take to our backyards and fire up the barbecues. Why not spice up your cooking with some homegrown herbs? Here is a quick and easy DIY project to create your own herb garden.

Want to make this tutorial easier? Replace the wooden flower boxes with regular plastic boxes and simply place them on top of the stair risers. You can always paint them any color to personalize them.

3. Create a Buried Pot Garden

Not only will creating a buried pot garden organize your flowers and plants, it is good for the environment too! Plus, you’ll seem like a professional landscaper to your neighbors.

4. Plant Your Seeds the Right Way

We’ve all gone through the difficult task of planting teeny, tiny, almost microscopic seeds. This year, why not utilize a product that you already have in your home: Toilet paper! Follow the easy instructions provided in the link below to get those tiny seeds planted.

What do you think about financial counseling?

December 14, 2020

I started financial counseling during the foreclosure crisis in 2008. A decade ago many of my clients felt isolated by their financial struggles. It was challenging for adults who struggled with their finance to find professional assistance, and the area of personal finance appeared to be an exclusive world. Today, I hear more people speaking […]
