Small Business Loan Officer

Small Business Loan Officer at Opportunities Credit Union

This position is responsible for generating small business loan prospects. Lender will source qualified leads throughout Vermont, targeting borrowers who need from $5,000 to $50,000. The successful candidate will have a genuine, engaging manner, understand basic credit analysis and will be motivated to both initiate relationships and deepen existing relationships. The ability to work with a team and communicate clearly is a requirement.  Languages other than English helpful but not required.  Knowledge of and connections to communities throughout Vermont preferred.  

The position involves meeting with new and existing partners, community members and sources.  Candidates must have the ability to manage a loan from application through closing and to determine whether loan requests meet established policies and procedures.  

The Small Business Lender works with underwriting and processing staff to ensure loan applications are complete and presentable to committee for review. The Lender understands how to negotiate loan terms and how to present them to committee and to borrower. He/she will work with other lending staff to assist with loan documentation, lien perfection, loan products and terms. The ability to document approved loan terms is required as is responsibility for the loan closing package and for completion of required documentation.

The Lender will work with collections staff to mitigate losses and will assist in preparing a loan loss reserve analysis.

Business degree or equivalent from four-year college; or two to three years’ related experience or a combination of the two.

Candidates should have knowledge of business accounting, Office 365 spreadsheet and presentation software as well as the ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence is required. Ability to speak effectively before groups is encouraged as is the ability to calculate discounts, interest, and percentages.
